OYAK Takes Major Step Towards Renewable Energy

OYAK will establish unlicensed renewable energy plants to meet the energy needs of its Group Companies. The facility belonging to OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş. will be one of Turkey's largest unlicensed solar power plants (GES) built on land. OYAK, which operates in mining metallurgy, cement concrete paper, automotive logistics, finance, chemistry, food, agriculture, livestock and energy sectors, will develop unlicensed renewable energy plant projects to meet the consumption needs of its companies.  

Starting with cement sector, expanding to other sectors

  OYAK General Manager Süleyman Savaş Erdem drew attention to the importance of investment in renewable sources at a time when the energy agenda is shaping the global economy. Erdem emphasized that as the world undergoes an energy transition, companies must also take responsibility and establish initiatives that will create value for sustainable living. Erdem continued his remarks as follows: "We are taking concrete steps to leave a better future for the generations to come by investing in environmentally friendly technologies and using clean energy sources. Over the last 6 years, we have accelerated our efforts to strengthen our business model from a sustainability perspective. We have started work on Turkey's largest unlicensed solar power plant to be built on land. With this project developed in alignment with the European Green Deal, we aim to support the energy we need for production with alternative sources and reduce carbon emissions in our carbon-intensive sectors. We are constructing an unlicensed solar power plant with approximately 100 MW installed capacity to meet part of the internal consumption of OYAK Çimento Fabrikaları A.Ş., one of our companies in the OYAK Cement Concrete Paper Sector, aiming to meet 30.1 percent of our total electricity consumption from renewable energy sources. The plant will be built on an initial area of approximately 1,500 hectares in Ankara, in compliance with the regulation of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) on this matter." Based on the statement made, the company will expand this transformation, which it will start with its companies in the cement, concrete and paper sectors, to its companies in other sectors as well, thus providing significant progress in renewable energy use. OYAK will implement projects capable of producing more than 1,000 MW of energy to meet the consumption of its Group Companies.
