NG Kütahya Seramik Invests in Energy Capacity Equivalent to 17,000 Households Annually

NG Kütahya Seramik, one of the world's largest ceramics manufacturers, held a grand opening ceremony for the solar power plants (SPP) it built across a total area of 300,000 square meters on the rooftops of various factory buildings within its production campus, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan joining via live video link.
NG Kütahya Seramik, one of the world's largest ceramic manufacturers, inaugurated solar power plants (SPP) built on a total area of 300,000 square meters across the roofs of various factory buildings within its production campus in a ceremonial opening attended live by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The company's SPP investments, realized with a USD 20 million investment, cover 20% of the factories' annual energy consumption. The facility, which generates 39 million kilowatt-hours annually, thus prevents approximately 35,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
Erdoğan: "Renewable energy is one of the most important pillars for achieving our 2053 net zero emissions targets"
The ceremony was hosted by NG Kütahya Seramik Board Member Salih Çetiner, NG Kütahya Seramik General Manager Yüksel Kaya, NG Kütahya Seramik Technical General Manager Ahmet Devecioğlu, Kütahya Porselen Board Member and General Manager Dr. Tanzer Polat Yılmaz, and Kütahya Porselen Technical General Manager Sonay Doğanç. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan participated live from the Presidential Complex as part of the "2024 renewable energy investments group opening ceremony," with his remarks on "sustainable energy" marking the occasion.
Emphasizing that the country is gaining new momentum in the energy sector, Erdoğan stated: "The energy sector ranks foremost among the areas in which we have been successful. We have made significant investments in every field. With discoveries in the Black Sea and Gabar, we have changed our fortunes. We have transformed Turkey into the center where energy corridors intersect. I wish the success of our ceremony and the investments we are formally putting into service. I sincerely congratulate the companies and institutions that have brought these investments to our country."
Noting that energy demand is projected to increase by 50% by 2035, Erdoğan stated: "While it varies each year, our energy import bill ranges between 60-100 billion dollars. Our objective is to reduce this import dependency and make our country a net exporter in resources and technology. For this purpose, raising electricity generation from renewable sources to the highest level constitutes one of the fundamental elements of our energy strategy. Renewable energy forms one of the most important pillars for achieving our 2053 net zero emissions targets.
In terms of renewable energy installed capacity, we rank 5th in Europe and 11th globally. We prioritize the implementation of strategies for diversifying energy sources, improving the efficiency of existing technologies, and utilizing renewable energy resources."
Çetiner: "The carbon emissions we prevented equate to approximately 2 million trees"
NG Kütahya Seramik Board Member Salih Çetiner, noting that they constructed SPP facilities at six different times within the campus, disclosed in his opening remarks that they invested a total of USD 20 million for SPP installation with 61,345 PV panels and 28.44 MW capacity. Stating that the electricity generated covers 20% of NG Kütahya Seramik factories' annual consumption, Çetiner said: "The annual production capacity of our facility, which is 39 million kilowatt-hours, represents the annual energy needs of approximately 17,000 households, while our investment prevents approximately 35,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, which corresponds to approximately 1 million 725 thousand trees."
Emphasizing that the Climate Act, which targets net zero emissions by 2053 and green growth in line with the European Green Deal, is of critical importance for our country, Çetiner stated: "Thanks to our SPP investments, we support our country's environmentally conscious and sustainable energy model. With the increase in our production capacity, our domestic technology investments, and our environmentally conscious energy policies, we continue our investments unabated to leave a healthier and more livable world for the generations to come."
