The Sustainable Business Awards, regarded as the "Oscar of Sustainability" in Turkey's business world, were held for the 12th time this year. MG International Fragrance Company, the first company to receive an award in the "Biodiversity" category opened for the first time this year, earned its place among pioneering institutions in this field through a nature conservation project it carries out in an area of approximately 35,000 football fields in size (approximately 250 km²) in Istanbul's Şile.
An exemplary model with science-based nature conservation approach
International essence producer MG International Fragrance Company, in cooperation with KuzeyDoğa Association, is conducting a scientific, participatory and long-term effort aimed at protecting Şile's rich ecosystem within the scope of the project. The project is based entirely on voluntary participation; it was implemented with a sense of inner responsibility to nature, without any legal obligation. MG International Fragrance Company, through this comprehensive approach, transformed its environmentally-conscious vision into tangible success, creating an exemplary model in the field of sustainability.
Within the scope of the project, 118 bird species, approximately 400 plant species (9 of which are endemic, 5 rare or endangered) as well as important mammal and bat habitats were identified and documented. The study aims at the restoration of coastal ecosystems, increasing local communities' awareness of nature, and enabling the scientific data obtained to contribute to Turkey's nature conservation policies.
