Kordsa Targets USD 70 Million Revenue in Composite Reinforcement

Kordsa, a global player in tire, composite and construction reinforcement technologies, announced at the JEC Composite Fair, the industry's most important gathering, that it is delivering speed and efficiency in automotive through the launch of automotive composite technologies.

Kordsa, a subsidiary of Sabancı Holding, continues its growth in both the tire reinforcement market where it operates and in the new construction and composite reinforcement markets it has entered.

The JEC fair, held in Paris since 1956 and taking place this year between 14-16 March, hosted approximately 1,250 participants from over 100 countries and more than 35,000 visitors. Kordsa participated in this important industry gathering for the fourth time.

At the fair, attended by Kordsa CEO Cenk Alper, who will assume the role of Head of Sabancı Holding Industrial Group as of 1 April 2017, Kordsa's developed automotive composite technologies and the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, which was commissioned in 2016 as a pioneering model for Turkey and launched jointly with Sabancı University, were introduced.

At the fair, Kordsa demonstrated its strength in the composite field through the technology it developed, providing detailed information about the technologies it launched that will bring speed and efficiency to the automotive sector.

With the resin technology it developed, Kordsa achieved increases in speed and efficiency, and through its innovation capabilities, delivered a revolutionary reduction in curing time.

With the new resin technology developed by Kordsa, the curing time of 9 minutes was reduced to 3 minutes and the surface quality of the produced composite material improved. With this new resin technology, Kordsa also developed and brought to market process technology suited to automotive production speed.

Cenk Alper said: "Today, Kordsa reinforces 1 out of every 2 automotive tires and 2 out of every 3 aircraft tires produced globally. The most important determining factor behind this global success in the tire production sector, where innovation and technology are the most important purchasing criteria, is our technology and innovation strength.

In 2016 we had a record number of patent applications. We have a total of 407 patent applications and 128 inventions. We maintain our global leadership through innovations that create value for our customers. We have now transferred our expertise from tire reinforcement to the composite field. Wherever Kordsa enters, it provides technologies that create difference and value.

Now we are offering a revolutionary innovation for automotive composites. With the strength of this technology, Kordsa is growing its market share in Europe in composite technologies. We are in the sampling process with 30 out of 40 customers we have met. We aim to reach USD 70 million in revenue from composite reinforcement.

The most important output of our technology and innovation strength is the approval by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of our R&D unit at the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, which we commissioned in 2016, where all processes from R&D to production are handled under one roof.

Thus Kordsa has its second officially approved R&D center. All these indicators are evidence of Kordsa's investment in technology and innovation and its strong returns," he said.
