IUPAC President Meets Chemistry Department Students

IUPAC President Meets with Chemistry Department Students Prof. Dr. Javier Garcia-Martinez, President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), visited Erzurum as a guest of Atatürk University. Within the framework of Atatürk University's programme, Prof. Dr. Martinez first met with students and faculty members in the Chemistry Department, conducting a discussion and delivering a conference titled "Circular Chemistry: How to Build a More Sustainable Future at Molecular Level" while sharing his experience and expertise. In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Martinez provided information about IUPAC's mission and its international-scale activities for the advancement of chemical science, and particularly emphasized the importance of developing entrepreneurship in science to translate the innovative work and discoveries of scientists into practical applications. Following the conference, Prof. Dr. Martinez visited Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı. During the visit, which included Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken Yurtcan and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sözbilir, Rector Çomaklı engaged closely with his guest and spoke about the work being conducted within the university in the field of basic sciences. Prof. Dr. Martinez expressed that he was impressed by Atatürk University's generally advanced infrastructure, its contribution to the development of the city, and the Chemistry Department's research capacity. He noted that he met with many faculty members from Atatürk University and was aware of these faculty members' scientific contributions to chemistry and chemistry education, and stated that the programmes organized in this context went very well. Rector Çomaklı noted that Atatürk University has been designated as a research university and that chemistry is one of the two sectoral areas determined by the Council of Higher Education thanks to the university's strong physical infrastructure and scientific potential in the field of chemistry. Underlining that they are open to international collaboration in this regard, Rector Çomaklı thanked IUPAC President Prof. Dr. Martinez for his support to date and expressed his hope for more frequent meetings.
