Istinye University Takes Important Step in University-Industry Cooperation

İstinye University took an important step to strengthen university-industry cooperation by licensing 6 patents it developed in the fields of digital transformation, pharmacology and health technologies to 5 different companies. The launch event, where the first patent licensing agreements were introduced, was held at the Vadi Campus. The university management emphasized that efforts to increase patent commercialization and industry collaborations will continue with determination.

İstinye Üniversitesi, university-industry collaboration strengthened by taking an important step, licensed 6 patents developed in digital transformation, pharmacology and health technologies fields to 5 different companies. The launch event introducing the first patent licensing was held at Vadi Campus. University management emphasized that efforts to increase patent commercialization and industry partnerships will be pursued with determination.

İstinye Üniversitesi achieved an important success in converting research outputs into economic value and strengthening university-industry collaboration. 6 patents developed in digital transformation, pharmacology and health technologies fields were licensed to 5 different companies. The launch event introducing the first patent licensing was held at Vadi Campus on 19 December.

"Strategic importance for economic and social development"
İstinye Üniversitesi Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Muharrem Usta drew attention to the role of intellectual property in the knowledge economy in his speech at the launch, saying:
"Intellectual property is not only the protection of academic output, but also a fundamental element of sustainable value creation. The commercialization of knowledge produced in universities has strategic importance for economic and social development."

İstinye Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Erkan İbiş, who delivered the opening speech of the launch, emphasized that university-industry collaboration is a strategic priority, stating: "As İstinye Üniversitesi, we view university-industry collaboration as a strategic priority. These first patent licensing initiatives are an important indicator of our university's rising academic and research trajectory. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bestami Özkaya, referring to the university's developing patent portfolio and commercialization vision, said:
"Our university's patent portfolio has shown significant development in both quality and impact in recent times. This licensing activity is one of the most important initiatives carried out to date at İstinye Üniversitesi and is a critical turning point in terms of research outputs being converted into economic value."

"Converting knowledge produced in universities into added value is important"
Prof. Dr. M. Zeki Durak, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, who attended the launch, referred to Turkey's recent national and international achievements in the field of industrial property. Prof. Dr. Durak emphasized the critical role of the patent commercialization process and industrial property rights in generating economic value, noting that converting knowledge produced in universities into added value through effective commercialization mechanisms is of great importance for the country's economy and innovation ecosystem.

İstinye Üniversitesi aims to continue in the coming period its efforts to support the connection of research outputs developed in strategic areas, particularly digital transformation, pharmacology and health technologies, with industry and to increase patent commercialization activities. The realized licensing represents a tangible indicator of the university's innovation, entrepreneurship and impact-oriented research approach.
