Statement from İMİB Chairman Dinçer on World Mining Day, 4 December

İMİB Chairman Aydın Dinçer stated that the mining sector today provides direct employment to 150,000 people and indirect employment to 2 million, emphasizing that everyone must adhere to red lines for safe mining operations. Dinçer said that the foundation of sustainable mining is occupational health and safety, and stressed that trained personnel are extremely important in this regard. Dinçer noted the following: "The Turkish mining sector provides direct employment to 150,000 people and indirect employment to 2 million. The modern life we have today is a result of mining operations, which rank among the most difficult and risky professions. The minerals our miners extract from the depths of the earth make our lives easier, help our country's development, and strengthen our economy. Today, as the mining sector, we contribute to creating a value of 40 billion USD by producing raw materials for all other sectors. Of the 90 types of minerals produced worldwide, 80 are found in Turkey. The environment, human health and safety are our red lines, and by adhering to these, we continue our efforts to conduct more intensive mining operations that realize our wealth. Our miners, every worker in our production facilities, our engineers, all responsible people in the public and private sectors, exporters—in other words, all components of mining operations—must act together even more from now on," he said.
