The Istanbul Association of Exporters of Chemicals and Chemical Products (İKMİB) held the fourth edition of its traditional "İKMİB Export Stars Awards Ceremony" in Istanbul. The award ceremony aims to honor and encourage member companies in the chemical sector for their export achievements. This year, at the 2018 İKMİB Export Stars Awards Ceremony, a total of 84 companies ranking in the top three across 8 categories were awarded. The chemical sector, which achieved USD 17.4 billion in exports in 2018, played a major role in breaking the Republic's export record last year with USD 168.1 billion. İKMİB recognized the sector representatives with the highest exports in 2018 in the chemical sector, which is one of the key actors in Turkey's export-driven growth strategy. The 2018 İKMİB Export Stars Awards Ceremony, in which 84 awards were presented across 28 total categories in the chemical sector's subsectors and product groups, marked its fourth edition this year. The awards ceremony, hosted by İKMİB Board of Directors Chairman Adil Pelister at Raffles Istanbul Zorlu Center, was attended by Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Chairman İsmail Gülle, Istanbul Mining and Metals Exporters Associations (İMMİB) General Secretary S. Armağan Vurdu, NGO and Association Chairmen, İKMİB Board Members, and representatives of sector companies.

"We need Turkish exporters' vision, collective wisdom and projects"

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Chairman İsmail Gülle, emphasizing that they are experiencing the joy of stepping into 2019 with new records after leaving 2018 behind, a year in which historic export records were broken, stated: "This year, we are more excited than ever about the İKMİB Export Stars Awards. In 2018, they tried to destabilize our economy. However, with the firm stance of our exporters who contribute to this country's development, production and employment, and most importantly those who take risks, we set new records. Fortunately, in March we achieved the highest monthly export in the Republic's history with USD 16.3 billion. In the first quarter of the year, our exports increased by 3.34 percent compared to 2018, reaching USD 44.5 billion. Our chemical sector made a very significant contribution to this. By already reaching approximately USD 5 billion in chemical exports, we have instilled hope for the future. Because of this success, I sincerely believe we will reach the USD 20 billion export target set for the chemical sector in 2019. During the election-free period of the next 4.5 years, we will need Turkish exporters' vision, collective wisdom and projects in the reforms to be implemented in the economy and trade. TİM's doors are open to all exporters. With the support of our exporters, we will continue working to do better for Turkey's future. I heartily congratulate all our companies here today receiving awards, the heroes of exports," he said.

"With exports, we broke the Republic's record"

At the ceremony, İKMİB Board of Directors Chairman Adil Pelister, delivering the opening remarks, thanked companies that elevated Turkey to the world stage in the chemical materials and products sector in 2018 and made everyone proud with their global achievements. Pelister, noting that as the chemistry family, together with its 16 subsectors, they made a significant contribution to Turkey's exports and economy, stated: "Actually, with our raw materials spanning from automotive to furniture, textiles to food, we touch many areas and provide significant added value for our country. Last year, thanks to our economic administration's determination and our endless faith in this beautiful country, we broke the Republic's export record with total exports of USD 168.1 billion. And most importantly, we achieved this success by moving like a single body, all together. As the chemical sector, we had a major role in this historic achievement. The chemical industry completed 2018 in third place with USD 17.4 billion in exports, an increase of 8.23 percent," he said.
