Bondalti Sets Up Dedicated Visual Chemical Alarm System

Founded 150 years ago, Bondalti today manufactures basic chemicals that play an important role across a range of sectors, from medical product manufacturing and water treatment to paper production. Bondalti has built a strong reputation for innovation, competence and human development. With over 400 employees across three facilities located in Estarreja, Coimbra and Porto Salvo in Portugal, it is regarded by many as an excellent employer. Safety comes first at Bondalti's chemical manufacturing plants, and it is critical that employees have as much information as possible about issues so they can respond quickly and appropriately in the event of a chemical incident. The alarm system used at Bondalti's production facility featured three levels of severity indicated by colors. Employees were only alerted through this high-level bell and light system, and were not provided with detailed information about the context of the problem occurring. As part of its ongoing commitment to reshaping itself through innovation, Bondalti determined that it needed to review and upgrade its alarm system to optimize its impact and future-proof its operations. Carlos Moura, Automation and Control Director, stated: "Chemical incidents are complex and unpredictable situations containing many variables, each requiring a different and unique response. While our alarm system fulfilled the function of alerting our employees to a problem, it was insufficient in communicating all the complex situations and details related to the chemical incident to them, and we needed a more holistic system.

In the future, we are considering further improving the alarm system by providing more information about the context of the incident."

Sony and Bondalti worked closely together during the first three months of 2018 to create a custom AV alarm solution and professional display system that would meet the changing needs of the factory without requiring renovation of Bondalti's existing IT system. As a result of this collaboration, the two companies designed and implemented a new customized visual alarm system using Sony's comprehensive device and room management solution for corporate environments, TEOS Manage, and 13 BRAVIA Professional Displays. Sony's TEOS Manage solution now facilitates the management and distribution of the company's information display across all professional screens, which serve two purposes. In daily use, the displays can show a range of important corporate information for both visitors and employees. However, in the event of a chemical incident, the new alarm system will automatically activate across all displays and deliver clear information, recommendations and steps on how to respond to each spill incident to those who need it most. The flexibility and customization of Sony's TEOS solution enabled it to stand out from competitors, providing the comfort of knowing that the critical safety system can be kept continuously up to date in a rapidly changing company.
