Biota introduces innovation with '100% thermal water content'
Dermocosmeticals, which aim to treat while beautifying the skin, are emerging as a rising star in the global cosmetics market. Biota Laboratuvarları has introduced Turkey's rich mineral-content thermal water sources to the dermocosmetical field for the first time in the shampoo category.
Drawing on thermal waters from two mineral-rich sources—Bolu Göynük and Bursa Osmangazi—Biota has launched three dermocosmetical shampoos to address hair and scalp problems, introducing them simultaneously to the world market alongside Turkey.
Having researched Turkey's thermal potential and resources over approximately three years under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Zeki Karagülle from Istanbul University and Prof. Dr. Murat Türkoğlu, Chair of the Biota Scientific Board, the company is now bringing dermocosmeticals developed with domestic thermal water content to consumers.
Initially with the Bioxcin Aqua Thermal series, Biota is providing solutions to dandruff, severe dandruff, and sensitive scalp problems, and will use thermal water content in all its formulations to enhance their efficacy in future.
Cihat Dündar: "Thermal Water Used as a Dermocosmeticals Ingredient for the First Time in Turkey"
A meeting was held to discuss the added value that using thermal water as a dermocosmeticals ingredient for the first time in Turkey will bring to the Turkish economy and to present the innovative products developed. Speaking at the meeting held in Bursa, a thermal water haven, Biota Laboratuvarları Board Chairman Cihat Dündar stated, "Turkey's thermal water resources are being used for the first time in dermocosmeticals through the innovative products manufactured by Biota." Noting that Biota aims to provide solutions enriched with thermal water content to dermatological problems such as acne, pigmentation spots, and atopic dermatitis, which are increasingly prevalent in today's world, Cihat Dündar said that these products are not limited to pharmacies in Turkey alone, but are reaching consumers in 60 countries to which the company exports. Dündar said, "Biota, which aims to maintain its market leadership in hair loss prevention products for all dermocosmeticals it will develop, intends to combine its specialized herbal ingredient solutions with thermal water content to offer more effective solutions."Turkey Ranks First in Europe for Thermal Water Resources
Noting that Turkey ranks first in Europe and among the world's top seven countries in terms of geothermal resources and potential, Cihat Dündar stated that according to MTA data, the country has approximately 1,500 natural thermal water sources. Explaining Turkey's goals to produce dermocosmeticals that will achieve global success by utilizing these local and abundant thermal water resources, Cihat Dündar continued as follows: "We have integrated thermal water standing at its source into our daily lives for consumers who want to have healthy skin and hair, converted it into economic value, and transformed it into an innovative product we will export to the world. As Turkey, we are taking a step into this field for the first time and making investments. Today, along with the domestic market, our exports to over 60 countries, distribution agreements, and investments as a global brand aim to position our country as a regional hub in the dermocosmeticals field."Turkey's Cosmetics Market Size at TRY 8 Billion
Pointing out that while the global cosmetics market is approximately USD 500 billion in size, Turkey's market is only TRY 8 billion, Cihat Dündar said, "From this perspective, we can say that Turkey's cosmetics market has very high potential. Approximately 10 percent of this market consists of dermocosmeticals products. Approximately 70 percent of the market is in the hands of foreign brands in a way that has no precedent anywhere in the world."Advertisement
