Kordsa Hosts Third Meeting of EU-Funded Horizon 2020 PolynSPIRE Project

The third meeting of the PolynSPIRE 1 project, in which Kordsa is among the project partners, took place in Istanbul under the hosting of İKMİB and with the support of Kordsa. The PolynSPIRE project, conducted under the European Union-supported Horizon 2020 program, held its General Project Meeting and Information Sharing Workshop at Kordsa's Izmit facility in May. Over the 48-month process, a total of 3 different innovations covering TRL7 level are planned to be delivered. Kordsa, which operates in the tire and construction reinforcement as well as composite technologies sectors, joined the PolynSPIRE project in 2018 with an open innovation approach, aiming to present innovative technologies for plastic recycling under the European Union-supported Horizon 2020 program. The project aims to strengthen Europe's research and technology development capacity, and to encourage and advance university-industry cooperation. The meeting held in Istanbul was attended by 22 project partners from 11 countries, including major actors in Europe's chemical sector such as Arkema, Novamont, and Repsol. Kordsa coordinated the meeting preparations jointly with host İKMİB. The three-day event concluded with a visit to Kordsa's Izmit facility. Over the 48-month process, the PolynSPIRE project is expected to achieve the recycling of 60 kilotons of plastic waste, a reduction of 300 kilotons of CO2 equivalent emissions, and the conservation of 70 kilotons of oil equivalent fossil fuels. The targeted impacts within 20 years include the processing of 4.5 million tons of waste annually, a reduction of 45 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions, and the preservation of 10 million tons of oil equivalent fossil fuels. The project's opening meeting was held at KoWi in Brussels, the European liaison office of German research companies. The organization of the project's second meeting was undertaken by İKMİB, and the two-day meeting took place in May at Kordsa's Izmit facility, hosted by Kordsa.
