41st Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild Istanbul to Open Its Doors on 8-12 May
The Balkans, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, Middle East and North Africa region will host one of the five largest building fairs in the world – Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul, which opens its doors on 8 May.
For 40 years, Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul has created added value in the construction sector, Turkey's locomotive industry, offered new business opportunities, and enabled sectoral knowledge sharing with increasingly rich content each year, providing undeniable contribution to the country's economy.
This year's fair will be held from 8-12 May at Tüyap Fair and Convention Centre. For the 41st edition of Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul, organized by YEM Fuarcılık under ITE Turkey, which organizes leading fairs in Turkey's leading sectors, business development platform activities have been refreshed.
The program, designed to gather all stakeholders in the sector under one roof around current issues and innovations in materials, construction and architecture, and to serve as the single address for acquiring all current information needed by the sector, will host over 70 national and international speakers across 5 days in more than 30 different sessions.
Over 40 inspiring topics covering "innovation," "technology," "design," "energy," "materials," "real estate," "planning" and "economy" in the construction sector will be discussed with decision-makers representing both public and private sectors.
Sector Representatives in 'Construction Sector Agenda Forum'
At the 'Construction Sector Agenda Forum' to be held on Tuesday, 8 May, the opening day of the 41st Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul, presidents of leading sector associations will convene under the moderation of journalist-host Hande Demirel to provide sector assessment from materials, construction, economics and planning perspectives. The forum, which will also address future projections, will include Environmentally-Friendly Green Buildings Association (ÇEDBİK) President Ö. Selçuk Özdil, Real Estate and Construction Cooperation Platform (GİİP) General Secretary Av. Mehmet Ali Kandemir, Real Estate Strategy Platform (GİSP) Vice President Mehmet Ersül, Istanbul Contractors Association (İNDER) President A. Nazmi Durbakayım, Turkish Consultant Engineers and Architects Union (TMMMB) President A. Süreyya Ural, Turkey Construction Materials Manufacturers Association (Türkiye İMSAD) President Ferdi Erdoğan, Urban Land Institute Turkey (ULI Türkiye) President Zafer Baysal, Turkish Association of Free Architects (SMD) Turkish SMD President Aytek İtez, Istanbul SMD President Sibel Dalokay Bozer and Izmir SMD President Hüseyin Egeli. The forum, which will scrutinize local government and state policies, will provide a strong platform for messages conveyed by the coming together of public and private sectors. Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul aims to provide participants with different perspectives by bringing together national and international professionals through Architect Conferences. In this regard, one of the fair's notable international speakers, Achim Menges, Founding Director of the Institute for Computational Design at Stuttgart University, will give a conference titled 'TRANSFORMING ARCHITECTURE – COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION' at Yapı Arena on Wednesday, 9 May. In his presentation, Menges will discuss ways to benefit from the full potential of digital technologies in architecture and construction, going beyond the digitalization of established planning procedures and automation of current construction processes toward a fully integrated computational design and construction approach.Another international speaker at Yapı Arena, Designer and WikiHouse Foundation Co-Founder Alastair Parvin, will be part of one of the fair's most anticipated events on Thursday, 10 May.
Parvin, who carries out housing and urban regeneration projects with simple, sustainable and accessible tools, will share his insights into the potential of the digital revolution in his talk titled 'NOTES ON A NEW INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION', helping our industry transform and overcome today's significant challenges in design. Parvin will answer questions such as: Can we build an open sector by using web and automation rather than viewing technology as a threat? Can we be leaders rather than followers of the new industrial revolution by working collaboratively in this field? Award-winning architect Asif Khan, known for his work in architecture, industry and furniture design, will be another speaker at the Architect Conferences as part of Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul on Friday, 11 May. Asif Khan, who blends innovative and unexpected aspects of these disciplines in his projects, will examine the relationship between people and design, materials, nature and especially technology, drawing inspiration from many details encountered in everyday life. The final speakers of the "Architect Conferences" within Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul will be Maria Lisogorskaya and Louis Schulz, founding members of Assemble, a 18-person multidisciplinary collective working in architecture, design and art. At their talk titled "LEARNING BY DOING" on Saturday, 12 May, they will discuss Granby Four Streets projects – which led to them being the first design and architecture studio to win the prestigious Turner Prize art award in 2015 and which continue today – and their residential and vacant shop renovation and social outdoor space creation projects. They will also co-facilitate the "YAPI UNPLUGGED" workshop together with "Architecture for Everyone."'Golden Magnet Stand Design Awards' Will Find Their Winners
Yapı Fuarı – Turkeybuild İstanbul's traditional awards, the 'Golden Magnet Stand Design Awards', will be presented to their winners this year as well. At the 'Golden Magnet Stand Design Awards', where companies are recognized for transforming their brands and products into attraction points for visitors through stand designs, an independent jury composed of participating company stands will present 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable mention awards to their recipients and designers. The fair will also present an ITE Group Special Award to encourage the development of stand designs.
