Chemical Sector Exports Reach USD 18.2 Billion Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association Chairman Adil Pelister made a statement. Adil Pelister said: "As the second-largest exporting sector in the first nine months of this year, we are making a significant contribution to the country's economy." Pelister also noted that Iraq is the country where we export the most, followed by the United States and Belgium. Chemical sector exports last month reached USD 2.3 billion with a 41.9% increase. The sector achieved USD 18.2 billion in foreign sales in the first nine months of the year with a 39% increase. According to data from the Turkish Exporters Council (TİM) and information compiled by AA correspondent, Turkey's exports in September increased by 30% compared to the same period last year and reached USD 20.7 billion. In January-September 2021, exports rose by 36% to USD 160.9 billion.

Up 41.9% Compared to 2020

Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) Chairman Adil Pelister made statements to AA correspondent. Pelister stated that exports in the chemical sector increased by 41.9% last month compared to the same period in 2020 and reached USD 2.3 billion. In his statements, Pelister said that the sector's exports increased by 39% in the first nine months of the year, reaching USD 18.2 billion. Pelister said: "In the third quarter, our exports reached USD 6.2 billion, growing 37% compared to the same period last year. In September, we exported mainly 'plastics and plastic products', 'mineral fuels, mineral oils and products' and 'inorganic chemicals'. In September, Iraq was the country where we exported the most, followed by the United States and Belgium."

Sector Expected to Maintain Positive Momentum

Adil Pelister noted that they are experiencing difficulties in sourcing raw materials and that high costs continue. Regarding the matter, Pelister said: "Our exporters are trying to continue production and increase exports despite these difficulties. As the second-largest exporting sector in the first nine months of this year, we are making a significant contribution to the country's economy. Therefore, we find the work on establishing the Export Development Fund announced by our President and the restructuring of Eximbank very important in terms of access to financing. We expect our exports in the last three months to continue and increase this positive momentum." Pelister stated that as İKMİB they continue activities supporting exporters and noted that there will be a trade fair with national participation each month until year-end. Pelister said: "This month we will participate in Beautyworld Me 2021 in Dubai, Medica 2021 in Düsseldorf in November, and PLMA 2021 in Amsterdam in December. Being able to hold these events physically after the pandemic could be said to be the greatest indicator of global normalization. Our aim is for our country, which has come to the fore in the global supply chain after the pandemic, to reach better positions and increase our share by exporting more."
