Chemical Sector Sets Export Target of USD 40 Billion The chemical sector, which set a new record with USD 25.4 billion in exports in 2021, has established its targets in line with its 2030 vision. Adil Pelister, announcing his candidacy for Chair at İKMİB for the upcoming term, stated that with an export target of USD 40 billion, he will transport Turkish chemical sector into the future in global trade and will establish a new ecosystem that will lead digital transformation in industry. Pelister announced the launch of the 'Chemistry Technology Centre' project, which will be a first in Turkey in line with the vision of developing high-technology and high-value-added domestic products, and said that as the locomotive sector of exports, they will continue to carry Made in Türkiye quality and technology to every corner of the world. At the umbrella organization of Turkish chemical exports, Istanbul Chemical Merchants and Products Exporters Association İKMİB, BETA Kimya A.Ş. Chairman of the Board Adil Pelister announced his candidacy for the new term. The chemical sector, which succeeded in maintaining its second-place position with record exports of USD 25.4 billion by rising 25 percent above the 2021 target, will focus on a USD 40 billion export target along with strategic steps and a high-technology-based future vision established for 2030.

Pelister: "We Kept Our Promise and Paved the Way for Our Chemical Exporters"

Adil Pelister stated that they started work with a strong board of directors following the 2018 election and took pride in keeping the promises they made to chemical exporters. "Upon taking office, we fulfilled our promise regarding the reduction of the upper limit of the Green Passport right granted to our exporters. Through our initiatives with our ministries, we led the effort to lower the export threshold to USD 500,000 and extended the passport period from 2 years to 4 years. To reduce import dependency in raw materials and semi-finished goods in our chemical sector and increase domestic and national production, we prepared our 'Turkish Chemical Sector Investment Priority Products' report. And we are pleased that 98 out of 103 product groups to which we gave strategic priority in investment were included in the Industry and Technology Ministry's 'Technology-Oriented Industrial Initiative Health and Chemical Products Support Programme'. We brought purchasing delegations from many major companies from all over the world together with our chemical exporters. We supported important projects with our Research and Development and Product Development groups that would increase production and exports. As we promised, we achieved the permanent second position of chemicals in exports and reached record export figures in the history of the Republic. As the chemistry family, we achieved this leap together. In the upcoming term, we will take strategic steps to carry our sector into the future with the goal of creating high value-added in chemicals. With our 2030 vision we will carry chemical exports into the future and again we will succeed together."

Pelister: "We Will Create a New Chemistry Ecosystem with the Chemistry Technology Centre"

Adil Pelister, emphasizing that they will lay the foundations of a new model for digital transformation and high-technology-based value-added products in the chemical industry, said: "One of the most strategic fields for the future of our country and the world is the chemical sector. From defence to automotive, from energy to health and even food, chemistry has a footprint in every area of life. Especially in recent times, as we discuss artificial intelligence and even the concept of the virtual universe, we are seeing the impact of high technology and digital transformation in industry in all components of the global chemical sector. In light of these developments, we are bringing to life a new project that will host the change and transformation of our sector. With the 'Chemistry Technology Centre', which will strengthen the power of Turkish chemical industry and be a first for our country, we are preparing to establish a new-generation chemistry ecosystem. Through the 'International Accredited Reference Laboratory Services', 'Digital Library', 'Export Development Centre' and 'Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Research and Development Centre' that we will establish within the Chemistry Technology Centre, which will be located in the Technology Valley, we will bring together 4 different disciplines in a single centre. The Chemistry Technology Centre will serve as a technology hub that will take our chemical industry and exports over the threshold."

Pelister: "Our Sustainability Action Plan is Ready for the Future of Chemistry and Global Success in Exports"

Emphasizing that with the implementation of the Chemistry Technology Centre project, the chemical sector will cross the threshold and a new era will begin in chemical exports, Pelister said: "We will open a test, analysis and certification centre equipped with extremely advanced equipment, where analysis and tests with international accreditations can be conducted faster and at lower cost in Turkey. This way, a resource of USD 12 million per year will remain within the country. The 'Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Research and Development Centre' that we will establish within KTM will be an attraction centre where start-ups focusing on high value-added new-generation products and projects will go through their incubation period. Within the framework of university-industry cooperation, we will bring our academics and students together around the same table for new discoveries in chemistry. Our Export Development Centre division is structured as a facility where our exporters and especially our SMEs can access information and receive consultancy in many areas from international regulations to logistics. Through the Digital Library, we will transfer all scientific publications, printed and visual works, particularly in the chemical sector, to the digital environment. We will open this unique resource to our sector and all our researchers. In summary; we have created a sustainability-focused action plan that will create lasting value for our chemical sector and our exports, the golden key to growth. The establishment of the Turkey Chemistry Agency will also be one of our priority agenda items. In the upcoming term, we will continue to work for Turkey within this plan and succeed together with our exporters."
