2021 Turkey Chemical Industry Council to Be Held on 12-13 March

The Chemistry Sector Congress, held biennially under the Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association of Istanbul (İKMİB), which is currently chairing the 17th term of the Chemistry Sector Platform (KSP), will take place digitally on 12-13 March this year. Due to the pandemic, the 2021 Turkey Chemistry Sector Congress will be held digitally on 12-13 March 2021 instead of in person. The Congress is expected to be attended by T.C. Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan, T.C. Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, President of Turkish Exporters Assembly İsmail Gülle, Chemistry Sector Platform (KSP) Chairman Adil Pelister, and numerous speakers and guests from public institutions, private sector, NGOs and academia.

Seven Sessions Over Two Days to Address the Future of the Sector

Over two days, the Congress will address the sectoral problems and solution proposals to be presented by NGO and Association Heads, as well as seven main sessions covering: "Effects of the Pandemic on the Global and Turkish Chemical Sector and Future Expectations", "Investment Needs of Turkey's Chemical Industry", "Foreign Trade, Financing, Logistics and Digitalization of the Chemical Sector", "Revision of the Customs Union and Effects of Trade Agreements on the Chemical Sector", "Effects of the European Green Deal on the Chemical Sector", "Sustainability Management in the Chemical Sector", and "Cooperation between the Chemical Industry and Universities". These sessions will discuss the future of the sector. Many topics will be covered, ranging from the outlook of the chemical sector in the world and Turkey to the Transition Program, from R&D and investment incentives to new target markets, from financing, logistics and digitalization in the chemical sector (e-commerce and e-exports) to the circular economy, Customs Union revision, trade agreements, Brexit effects, the European Green Deal, recycling and expectations, bio-based chemicals, and other global developments related to the environment.

Chemistry Sector Platform (KSP) Chairman and İKMİB Board Chairman Adil Pelister said, "Since the beginning of last year, we at İKMİB have been chairing the 'Chemistry Sector Platform', which is a forum bringing together 38 leading institutions of our sector, including 26 associations, 1 foundation, 2 chambers, and our representations at universities.

Within the Platform, we generally meet with our stakeholders every two months to assess our sector. Additionally, the Platform organizes the 'Chemistry Sector Congress' biennially, which produces important outputs regarding the status and future of our sector. We had to postpone our Congress, which was planned to be held in person last year, due to pandemic conditions.

This year we will hold it in a virtual environment as a two-day event on 12-13 March. At the Congress, developments, problems and solution proposals in our chemical sector, which supplies raw materials and intermediate products to 27 sectors including plastics, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, paints, rubber and adhesives, as well as topics and expectations that will shed light on the coming decade will be discussed. We expect many speakers and guests from the public sector, private sector, NGOs and academia to participate in the Congress that will guide the future of our chemical sector. I wish our Congress, where important topics will be discussed regarding the future vision of our sector, to be productive and beneficial to all participants." he said.
