Thickeners are rheological additives used in paint systems. When a thickener is added to a system, a water-based system not only becomes thickened but also improves mechanical properties and physicochemical stability. PU thickeners have increasingly been adopted due to their excellent spreading and thickening effect. PU thickeners are preferred because they have better spreading properties compared to other thickeners and higher gloss levels can be achieved. Other advantages include high water and rub resistance and strong resistance to bacteria. Additionally, storage stability can be significantly improved when successfully combined with cellulosic thickeners. Vesmody U series polyurethane thickeners are non-ionic in structure and are HEUR (hydrophobically modified ethylene oxide polyurethane) type polyurethane thickeners. Vesmody U series products allow formulations that provide an excellent balance between flow and sag. They are easy to use and can be incorporated into the system immediately after dilution at any stage of formulation. In addition to fillers and pigments, they are added to the system depending on the amount and character of the emulsion. Their dosage in formulations typically ranges from 0.1 to 2.0% by weight.
