PrimeLab Photometer Enables Legionella Analysis Within One Hour
What is Legionella?
In a hospital or hotel shower head, a car wash, or an industrial cooling system, aerosols can contain water droplets filled with bacteria. Legionella can travel very long distances through the air, reaching us this way through inhalation. Infection cases have been found within a radius of up to 10 km from the source. The Legionella test currently used as standard requires two weeks to allow legionella bacteria to grow and be counted, and involves a culture method that prevents hazard prevention. The Legipid® test is based on a patented immunomagnetic method that detects only living Legionella bacteria. The standard culture method requires Legionella to grow on an agar over several days and become countable. Legipid works differently. 1 liter of sample water is filtered through filter paper to concentrate Legionella. The Legionella on the filter paper is dissolved in a small vial to which "L1" reagent is added. "L1" is a patented solution containing immunomagnetic particles (antibodies) that bind only to Legionella bacteria. After several washing steps, a staining solution is added to color the captured Legionella. Color concentration is linked to Legionella concentration, which enables it to be tested by PrimeLab 1.0. The Legipid® test kit contains everything you need to run Legionella tests, apart from a PrimeLab plastic adapter for 1 ml vials and a filter kit to filter your water sample.
