Ore Processing Engineering has a multidisciplinary structure in terms of working discipline and the scientific subjects it is based on, and it occupies a unique place in its field. Ore Processing encompasses the stages through which naturally produced resources are made usable in various fields such as metallurgy, iron and steel, glass, ceramics, cement, detergents, construction materials, paints industry and energy production. In this context, Ore Processing is an industrial branch that processes ores containing elements such as Lead, Zinc, Copper, Iron, Chromium, Manganese and Boron through technological stages to raise their metal content to certain levels, purifies mineral-based raw materials used in various fields of industry from unwanted impurities, and brings mineral-based materials to specific dimensions. For this reason, processes requiring engineering and technological expertise, such as the design and operation of a factory, become important in Ore Processing. One of the most important problems in Turkey and the world today is the production of inexpensive and clean energy. Much of the electrical energy today is generated in thermal power plants based on coal; furthermore, coal is used in obtaining various solid and gaseous fuels. The production of clean and high-quality coal consumed in industry and homes is of great importance in terms of environment and human health. Under the supervision of Ore Processing Engineering, the preparation of coals with improved environmentally friendly properties can be accomplished more efficiently, thus providing significant benefits both to the environment and economically. Valuable and rare metals found in our country and for the most part evaluated through foreign technology and personnel, as well as advanced technology raw materials (Au, Ag, Ni, Ge, Se, Te), nuclear energy raw materials (U, Th) will be evaluated thanks to Ore Processing Engineers trained in our country, equipped with specialized knowledge and experience, and capable of using current information and technologies in this field. Moreover, the utilization of all types of domestic and industrial waste and all types of liquid-solid separation operations fall within the scope of Ore Processing Engineering. As an institution of Istanbul Technical University, seeing new institutions among us will honor us and make us even stronger.
