CROPURE™ High-Purity Natural Oil Series

Triglyceride-based oils have a distinct colour and odour by nature. At the same time, these oils have a less stable structure compared to other oils. The presence of these triglyceride oils in an oil blend affects the stability and aesthetic properties of the mixture, and also manifests itself in the final product. Cropure Natural Oils is a series composed of high-purity natural triglyceride oils. Thanks to their very light colour and almost odourless nature, and their highly stable structure, the Cropure series stands apart from other cosmetic oils. Through Croda's proprietary Super Refine technology, natural oils of very high purity can be obtained without any change in the basic triglyceride profile.

Super Refined Oils

Croda's proprietary Super Refine Technology is an oil purification process based on the removal of small polar molecules in the oil content. By using this technology, it is possible to obtain cosmetic oils with very high purity, light colour and reduced odour intensity. In addition to all these benefits, the stability of the oils is increased, making them more resistant to degradation over time. This allows formulators to more easily control odour in their final product and obtain a more stable product over the long term.

Enhanced Oxidation Stability

Natural triglycerides are prone to oxidation through the effects of temperature, light or catalysts (including certain metal types). The oxidation process results in the formation of peroxides and hydroperoxides. This can be detected with a standard peroxide value test. As oxidation continues, the amount of peroxide increases, while secondary products such as carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) and alcohols are also formed. The resulting carbonyl compounds lead to colour degradation, odour change and irritation. Super Refine Technology eliminates peroxides and hydroperoxides and also secondary oxidation products. This process also minimizes the formation of carbonyl compounds. Figure 1: Testing of oxidation stability at 60°C with peroxide content. The peroxide value in Cropure™ OL is very low.
