According to Turkish Exporters Council (TİM) data, Turkey's exports reached USD 20.8 billion in February. The chemicals sector exported USD 2.5 billion worth of chemicals and chemical products, making it the second-largest exporting sector in February. The sector's two-month exports reached USD 5 billion.
Evaluating the chemicals sector's February export figures, İKMİB Chairman Adil Pelister stated, "Our country achieved significant success in 2024 by growing 3.2 percent despite challenging conditions. Our chemicals sector, one of Turkey's largest exporting sectors, completed last year with USD 30.8 billion in exports, up 1 percent. We started this year well by achieving USD 2.5 billion in exports in January. In February, despite the unfavorable calendar effect, we achieved USD 2.5 billion in exports and managed to maintain our position as the second-largest exporting sector.
New developments in global trade and changes in oil prices certainly affect both our export markets and us. On the other hand, the reduction in the mandatory foreign exchange sales requirement for exporters to the Central Bank has been a welcome development. Further reducing the 25 percent mandatory foreign exchange sales ratio will provide significant financing relief to our exporters.
We wish to see this support provided especially for the chemicals sector, which is 70 percent dependent on imports in terms of raw materials. As İKMİB, we continue our activities intensively. In February, we organized the Lisbon Cosmetics Sectoral Trade Mission, AEEDC 2025 dental fair national participation, Ambiente 2025 fair national participation, Qatar Packaging Sectoral Trade Mission and Stamegna Milan Cosmetics Sectoral Trade Mission. We will continue to support our sector so that exporters can acquire new markets, increase market diversification and sustain export growth.”
