Siegwerk Hosts Industry Leaders at INKday, Unveils Latest Innovations

Packaging ink leader Siegwerk held the 3rd edition of INKday, an event created to showcase technologies, innovations and latest trends in the industry while fostering mutual interaction with sector stakeholders.

Health-Safe Inks Take Center Stage at INKday

The INKday event, which opened with remarks from Siegwerk Board Member Hugo Noordhoek Hegt and Siegwerk Turkey General Manager Mustafa Güler, featured new ink solutions developed for packaging printing applications. Particular focus was placed on information about inks used in food packaging that are non-toxic and do not migrate into food. Presentations also covered UV LED for Narrow Web (labeling), low-migration UV solutions for Narrow Web (labeling) applications, low-energy and LED UV offset solutions, offset food packaging solutions, special effects in tobacco packaging, mono solvent PU-based paste systems, high-speed flexo + HQ (High Quality) flexo, packaging with aggressive fillers, specialty effect inks for packaging applications, project management and consulting (OSC & InHouse), digital inks, product safety and regulations (PSR).

UV LED Technology for Narrow Web (Labeling) Introduced

The presentation examined energy cost, environmental impact, safety and quality aspects, discussing the advantages of LED UV technology—a new trend in light-cure systems—compared to UV technology. Sicura Nutriflex LED technology from the UV flexo series was presented, a product developed for food packaging applications and other sensitive applications (cosmetics and pharmaceuticals) under regulatory constraints such as Swiss Guidelines, EUPIA Regulation Guidance, and Nestle Guide Notes, featuring low migration, high reactivity and excellent adhesion.

Offset Food Packaging Solutions Explained

In the offset food packaging solutions section, various regulatory restrictions such as EUPIA Regulation, Swiss Guidelines, and Nestle Guidelines regarding migration were discussed, along with migration risk in food packaging and migration studies conducted in Siegwerk's laboratories. Following presentation of various food packaging samples, Siegwerk introduced its low-migration ink series: Tempo Nutripack 2 for conventional layer offset, Sicura Litho Nutriboard 2 for paper and carton UV offset, Sicura Litho Nutriplast 2 and Nutriplast IML for UV offset on plastic surfaces.

Mono Solvent PU-Based Paste System Presented

The presentation introduced high-performance, mono solvent, full PU paste systems usable with different binders (NC, full PU, NC/PU). The system's high pigmentation formulation was described as enabling excellent printability at high speeds and compatibility with a broad film range (OPP, PET, OPA).

High-Speed Flexo + HQ Flexo Solutions Shared

Expectations in high-speed and high-quality flexo printing, challenges encountered, and Siegwerk's existing solutions for this type of printing were discussed. High-quality flexo printing samples were also shared with customers.

Special Effect Inks Attracted Interest

Research shows that 70 percent of all purchasing decisions occur at the point of sale. Siegwerk presented various specialty effect inks and varnishes that offer differentiation potential and enhance shelf appeal while contributing to increased brand recognition. The company showcased its product portfolio consisting of numerous types of effect inks and varnishes: matte-gloss visual effects, paper, rubber, and sandy tactile effects, plus metallic, hologram, UV-active, and conductive properties.
