Prof. Dr. Kırman Receives Glass Industry's Most Prestigious Award Şişecam Chairman and Member of the Board Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman has been recognized by the Phoenix Award Committee for his valuable contributions to the development of the global glass industry and awarded 'The Glass Person of the Year 2023'. Şişecam Chairman and Member of the Board Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman has been recognized by the Phoenix Award Committee, which presents 'The Glass Person of the Year 2023' annually for contributions to the development of the global glass industry. This prestigious award, among the most distinguished in the glass industry, has been granted since 1971 to scientists, designers, engineers and business leaders who support and lead development in glass research and development, product design and engineering, manufacturing, marketing and sales.

Serving the glass industry is a way of serving humanity

Commenting on the award, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman said: "Glass, a miraculous material, is unique in its irreplaceable properties. Throughout its 5,000-year history, it has always been the most valuable material for civilizations. In this respect, serving the glass industry is a most appropriate way of serving humanity. This miraculous material, which reduces risks facing a sustainable world, promises a brighter future for the world with its superior qualities. I am greatly honored to be recognized with one of the most prestigious awards in an industry that adds value to such a unique material as glass," he said. Phoenix Award Committee Chairman Lincoln Brown stated in his remarks: "The aim of the Phoenix Award Committee is to select each year the person who plays an active role in the development of the glass industry and has made significant contributions in science, production or education in areas such as glass packaging, glass fiber, flat glass, household glassware and glass art." Brown noted that Prof. Dr. Kırman has made significant contributions not only to Şişecam but also to the "2022 International Year of Glass" declared by the United Nations, and highlighted the contributions made by Prof. Kırman together with Prof. Alicia Duran to the International Commission on Glass (ICG).

Award ceremony to be held in Italy

Phoenix Award Committee Chairman Lincoln Brown visited Şişecam Headquarters in early April to inform Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman that he had been unanimously selected by the Phoenix Award Committee as 'Glass Person of the Year'. The official award ceremony where Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman will receive his award will take place on 29 September 2023 in Italy. Since 2006, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman has served the development of the glass industry and has been honored numerous times for his contributions to the sector. Prof. Dr. Kırman was recognized with the President's Award by the International Commission on Glass (ICG), the most respected organization in glass science representing a total of 33 countries, for his contributions to the glass sector in the context of scientific research. Prof. Dr. Kırman also received the "Star of Italy" decoration and the title of "Knight" upon the recommendation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the decision of the Italian Presidency for his contributions to strengthening economic relations between Italy and Turkey and developing mutual investments between the two countries. Prof. Dr. Kırman, who was honored with the "Medal of Outstanding Service of the Republic of Tatarstan" for his valuable contributions to economic cooperation with Tatarstan and the development of investments, was recognized with a "Medal of Appreciation" for his contributions to the economic development of the Targoviste region in Bulgaria. Prof. Dr. Kırman is also the recipient of the Best Executive of the Year award at Le Fonti Awards, the award platform of Le Fonti, one of Italy's leading economic media outlets, for Şişecam's global achievements in innovation and sustainability.
