180 Tons of Waste Collected from İzmit Bay in Six Months

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary İZAYDAŞ, while carrying out ship waste collection activities in İzmit Bay, collected 180 tons of waste in the first six months of 2018 with four new sea surface cleaning vessels added to its fleet for the protection and cleaning of the bay.

Protecting İzmit Bay from Pollution

İZAYDAŞ successfully carries out the collection of waste from ships entering the bay using two waste collection vessels and provides actual waste collection services to approximately 3,000 ships annually, contributing significantly to the cleaning of the bay. On the other hand, İZAYDAŞ, with the aim of improving the quality of service provided in this field and being able to serve İzmit Bay for many years to come, under the supervision of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department Directorate, collected 180 tons of waste in the first six months of the year with four sea surface cleaning vessels added to its fleet, thus preventing physical pollution that could occur in our bay.

Emergency Response Authorization Certificate

İZAYDAŞ, which is also working to obtain an Emergency Response Authorization Certificate in order to conduct early intervention and cleanup operations for any pollution resulting from environmental accidents that may occur in the bay, plans to provide emergency response services to 42 ports with which it currently has protocols.

Karaosmanoğlu: These Are Our Most Important Services

Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu, who closely follows the work carried out in four areas for the cleaning of the bay, stated: "Our most important work is the services we provide to the environment and our seas. We apply serious sanctions to those who pollute our sea. Additionally, with specially equipped vessels that we call the Sea Sweeper, we clean the filth on the sea surface."
