Henkel Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability

During the past year, Henkel continued to make progress in implementing its sustainability strategy. Among the company's ambitious targets for packaging as a driver of sustainable and circular economic development, plastic emerged as one of the key focus areas. Kathrin Menges, Vice President Human Resources and Chair of the Sustainability Council at Henkel, commented: "Sustainability has long been Henkel's top priority. Today, we are reporting for the 28th time on our progress in creating value while reducing resource consumption. To date, we have successfully advanced many projects, initiatives and activities with the considerable support of our partners." Henkel aims to contribute to sustainable development by reducing its environmental footprint while simultaneously creating greater value by 2030 for customers and consumers, the communities in which it operates, and the company itself. In this context, Henkel actively supports the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. To advance progress in packaging, Henkel is focusing on increasing the use of recycled materials alongside reducing the amount of materials used and promoting their reuse. As part of its new packaging strategy, the company aims to make 100 percent of its packaging recyclable by 2025. This target had been achieved for more than 80 percent of packaging as of end of 2018. Additionally, Henkel aims to use 35 percent recycled plastic in consumer product packaging in Europe by 2025. This target had been achieved at approximately 10 percent as of end of 2018.
