January Export Figures Announced
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's exports in January reached USD 20 billion, representing a 3.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The chemical sector, which achieved USD 2.34 billion in exports, became the second-largest exporting sector in January and captured 13.6% of the country's total exports.
Evaluating the chemical sector's January export figures, İKMİB Board Chairman Adil Pelister stated: "In January, our chemical sector achieved USD 2.3 billion in exports with a 2% increase and became the second sector by capturing 13.6% of the country's exports.
We completed 2023 with USD 30.6 billion in chemical exports. Despite 2023 being a challenging year for both our country and the global economy, we managed to surpass the USD 30 billion threshold and became Turkey's second-largest exporting sector. This year we have set an export target of USD 35 billion.
We hope that the export growth we achieved in January will continue throughout the year with even higher performance and stability. In January, among the countries where we exported the most, the Netherlands ranked first with a 11.1% increase and USD 143.1 million, the United States ranked second with approximately USD 140 million showing a 66.58% increase compared to the same period last year, and Italy ranked third with USD 128.4 million showing a 62% increase.
Among our largest exporting product groups, our top three sectors were plastics and plastic products, mineral fuels and products, and inorganic chemicals. In 2024, we will continue production and exports to achieve even greater success."
Plastics and plastic products exports rank first
In January, plastics and plastic products ranked first in chemical substances and products exports with USD 717.712 million. Mineral fuels and products ranked second with USD 634.553 million in exports, while inorganic chemicals ranked third with USD 221.469 million in exports. Following inorganic chemicals, other sectors in the top ten were: essential oils, cosmetics and soap; rubber and rubber products; pharmaceutical products; paints, varnishes, inks and preparations; miscellaneous chemical substances; organic chemicals; and washing preparations.Country with the most exports: Netherlands
In January, the top ten countries with the most exports were the Netherlands, the United States, Italy, Romania, Spain, Germany, Russia, Iraq, the United Kingdom, and Gibraltar. Among the top 10 countries in January, Gibraltar showed the highest increase at 100%.Advertisement
