Chemical Sector's Exports Reach $2.2 Billion in September

According to data from the Turkish Exporters Council (TİM), Turkey's exports reached USD 22 billion in September. The chemical sector maintained its position as the second-largest exporting sector with USD 2.2 billion in exports in September. The sector's nine-month exports exceeded USD 23 billion with a 4.2% increase.

Evaluating the chemical sector's September export figures, Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) Board Chairman Adil Pelister stated, "Our chemical sector achieved USD 2.2 billion in exports in September. I can say that we are beginning to see the impact of many factors such as declining global demand, conflicts in our neighbouring regions, inflation and currency balance, and increased input costs in the September figures. Despite this, as Turkey's second-largest exporting sector, we continue to make the greatest contribution to the country's economy. However, looking at the nine-month data, we see a 4.2% growth in our chemical sector exports. Our January-September exports reached USD 23.1 billion. Our exporters need greater support in accessing financing during this challenging period. We expect support and incentives from our Economic Management in this direction. Despite all difficult conditions, we will continue working to increase our exports."

In September, "plastics and plastic products" accounted for the largest share of exports

In September, among chemical substances and products categories, plastics and plastic products exports ranked first in chemical exports with USD 822 million 449 thousand. In second place with USD 245 million 517 thousand in exports mineral fuels and products were ranked, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with USD 224 million 737 thousand. Other sectors in the top ten following 'inorganic chemicals' were 'essential oils, cosmetics and soaps', 'rubber and rubber products', 'paints, varnishes, inks and preparations', 'pharmaceutical products', 'miscellaneous chemical substances', 'washing preparations' and 'fertilizers'.

In September, Russia was the leading export destination with USD 139 million. The top ten export destinations in September were Russia, Netherlands, Iraq, Germany, USA, Italy, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom and Greece. Among the top 10 countries, the highest growth in September was 69.48% for Greece.
