Aegean Region's 6-Month Exports Reach $15 Billion

Aegean Region's six-month exports exceed USD 15 billion Exporters from the Aegean Region recorded USD 9.207 billion in exports during the first half of 2023, reaching 205 different export markets and increasing exports to 94 countries and regions. Ege İhracatçı Birlikleri Six of the 12 exporter associations under the umbrella organization exceeded their performance targets, while six associations fell short of last year's export figures. In the first six months of 2023, Aegean industrial product exporters achieved USD 5 billion in export performance, while the agricultural sector increased by 15% to USD 3.607 billion, and the mining sector recorded USD 527 million in exports. Ege Demir ve Demirdışı Metaller İhracatçıları Birliği, which recorded USD 1.290 billion in exports, maintained its top position, while Ege Su Ürünleri ve Hayvansal Mamuller İhracatçıları Birliği came second with USD 759 million in foreign currency earnings and Ege Hazırgiyim ve Konfeksiyon İhracatçıları Birliği held third place with USD 700 million in exports. Ege Zeytin ve Zeytinyağı İhracatçıları Birliği, which set export records every month in 2023, emerged as the sector with the strongest growth, increasing exports by 260% to USD 446 million in the first half. Ege Yaş Meyve Sebze İhracatçıları Birliği's exports rose by 8% to USD 595 million, while Ege Maden İhracatçıları Birliği increased exports to USD 527 million. Ege Hububat Bakliyat Yağlı Tohumlar ve Mamulleri İhracatçıları Birliği earned USD 518 million in foreign currency with 4% growth. Ege Tütün İhracatçıları Birliği increased exports by 31% to USD 436 million, while Ege Mobilya Kağıt ve Orman Ürünleri İhracatçıları Birliği advanced its six-month exports to USD 418 million. Ege Kuru Meyve ve Mamulleri İhracatçıları Birliği's exports rose by 6.5% in the first half to USD 417 million. Ege Tekstil ve Hammaddeleri İhracatçıları Birliği increased exports by 17% to USD 225 million. Ege Deri ve Deri Mamulleri İhracatçıları Birliği achieved USD 97 million in exports.

EİB reached 205 different export markets in the first half of 2023

Ege İhracatçı Birlikleri Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi stated that EİB reached 205 different export markets in the first half of 2023 and increased exports to 94 countries and regions, saying "Our traditional trade partner, the European Union, which is preparing many actions that will affect both its own market and that of its trading partners through the Green Deal, received USD 4.368 billion in exports from us in the first half of 2023. While exports to 14 EU countries increased in the first half of 2023, the EU's share in EİB's total exports was recorded as 47%, and Europe's share in our exports was 53%."

Eskinazi continued as follows;

"We exported USD 1.096 billion to Middle Eastern countries with 6% growth, USD 1.055 billion to American countries, USD 578 million to former Eastern Bloc countries with 37% growth, USD 536 million to other European countries, USD 188 million to Turkic republics with 17% growth, and USD 162 million to free zones with 3% growth. We realized USD 979 million to Germany, USD 770 million to the US, USD 598 million to Spain with 22% growth, USD 534 million to Italy, USD 426 million to the United Kingdom, USD 401 million to France with 8% growth, USD 351 million to the Netherlands, USD 315 million to Russia with 52% growth, USD 228 million to the United Arab Emirates with 48% growth, and USD 212 million to Poland with 20% growth." Chairman Eskinazi stated that they achieved USD 540 million in exports to Asian and Oceanian countries in the first half of 2023. "When examining our exports as EİB to Far Eastern countries; we realized USD 126 million to China with 5% growth, USD 60 million to Japan, USD 39 million to South Korea with 51% growth, USD 22 million to Hong Kong with 58% growth, and USD 6 million to Taiwan. In South Asia, we increased to USD 54 million to India, USD 18 million to Pakistan, and USD 14 million to Bangladesh. In the Asia-Pacific region, our exports increased by 27% to the Philippines, 43% to Malaysia, and 295% to Vietnam."

Exports reach USD 15.556 billion

The Aegean Region recorded USD 15.556 billion in exports in the first half of 2023. İzmir exported USD 8.804 billion with 2% growth, Manisa USD 2.624 billion with 4% growth, Denizli USD 2.089 billion, Balıkesir USD 548 million with 14% growth, Muğla USD 504 million with 13% growth, Aydın USD 466 million, Kütahya USD 203 million, Afyonkarahisar USD 158 million, and Uşak USD 157 million. Germany ranked first in exports from İzmir and Manisa, the United Kingdom in Denizli's exports, Italy in Aydın's exports, Russia in Muğla's exports, Spain in Balıkesir's exports, Italy in Kütahya's exports, the US in Uşak's exports, and the US in Afyonkarahisar's exports.

Chemistry sector leads İzmir's exports

The chemistry sector led exports in İzmir with USD 1.084 billion, while the ready-made garments and clothing sector contributed USD 709 million to İzmir's exports. Steel exporters from İzmir recorded USD 657 million in exports with 6% growth, automotive suppliers achieved USD 507 million with 14% growth, and the electrical-electronics sector achieved USD 404 million with 5% growth. The electrical-electronics sector was the leading sector in Manisa's exports with USD 1.099 billion, while the ready-made garments and clothing sector provided the largest contribution to Denizli's exports at USD 543 million. The mining sector became the leading sector in Aydın with USD 88 million in exports. The aquaculture and animal products sector accounted for the lion's share of Muğla's exports with USD 329 million at 11% growth. The electrical and electronics sector provided the largest contribution to Balıkesir's exports with USD 163 million at 154% growth. Ceramic exporters from Kütahya achieved USD 115 million in export performance. The textile sector in Uşak recorded USD 40 million in exports. The mining sector stood out in Afyonkarahisar's exports with USD 99 million.
